My favorite project thus far presented me with a challenge. We were given the option of creating a menswear or kidswear company to try to vary the types of clothing, material, customers, and sizing that we had become accustomed to in our many merchandising classes.
My company's name, Taylor Made, came from my middle name and my love of word play. The slogan is " A tailor-made man is Taylor made." I enjoyed getting to really make it my own and have free creative reign.
Inspiration for this Fall/Winter 2016 line can be seen above in my mood board. I wanted to go for a revamping of vintage 1940's. Naval planes, whiskey barrels, old cars, cigars and film noires came to mind, sparking ideas on colors: marsala, midnight sky, honey whiskey, noire, and morning steam.

I designed a total of ten items: two pairs of pants, two dress shirts, two sweaters, two jackets, a casual henley, and a vest. I researched target markets including a demographic and psychographic break down for young business men in the Northwest.
For each item, I specified price, materials, sizes, and callouts on details. A line sheet was included in the final presentation.

Research for this project was extensive. I had to find demographic and psychographic information on my target market, and I compared my company to a similar company. I made a full business plan from mission statement to market analysis to plan of action.
The competitor that I examined was J. Crew. They have a strong following, and their target tends to like a slimmer fit and a classic look which was something I wanted to embody in my pieces. Their price points are similar, but what makes my company stand out is our easy to shop environment and our slightly lower price. Through my research, I found that these were the key values held by male shoppers.
Taylor Made designs, markets, and sells dress wear for the busy, career-driven, pacific north-westerner man. Our fashion forward signature look is complete with a sport coat and slim trousers; formal enough to be worn in an office, yet comfortable enough to be worn during leisure. Taylor Made’s price range falls into the better category, being slightly less than companies with relatively the same quality, setting us apart from others. Our biggest benefit to our male customers in particular is being able help them find the right product for them while making shopping as easy and quick as possible.
