I joined Oregon State University's Fashion Organization at the end of my sophomore year. As a junior, in 2013, I took on the role of Club Secretary. The next year, I was elected president. In my time there, I have been involved in putting on four fashion shows. Our recycled show in 2014 was my favorite! I had a large part in the set up the day of the show, and I had a blast getting to see it all come together. Even better than seeing all my hard work light up the room was getting to watch all the designers see their amazing recycled outfits walk down the catwalk!

Designs were made of anything from candy wrappers, newspaper, old maps, life vests, and, my personal favorite, dryer lint! No more than $10 was spent on each outfit, and all our decorations were from recycled material as well. We even saved unused tickets to turn them into materials to use for the next year.

My club was in charge of everything. We rented the room in the OSU Memorial Union, designed and printed the tickets, sold tickets and promoted the show, found the designers and provided models if needed.

We made all the decorations, including this photobooth. We even found sponsors and offered a #trashinfashion2014 photo contest prize to further promote recycling and continue excitement about the show.

I have also worked closely with OSU's Student Health Services and GSA on the Red Dress Fashion show promoting safe sex and AIDS awareness.

When we found that the photo booth and hashtag contest were so popular, we implemented them into Red Dress as well. We had much less responsibility for this one, and only had to decorate the cat walk and organize the fashion part of the show, including designers applications and follow through.

While I adored working on all four of these fashion shows, the recycled show in 2014 was by far our most successful in my few years in the club.
