Pineapple Perfection

My fruit inspired project was designed from pineapples. This one is fairly obviously inspired by the top of a pineapple; I imagined what it would look like if turned upside-down.

What was particularly fun about this project was trying to find variation for my line. I was unsatisfied with the lack of diversity in what I knew about pineapples. I had to problem solve and do a little research to come up with something different.

The first thing I think of with pineapples is the green tuft at the top and the juicy yellow center. Being an OSU student, I try to stay far away from our rival colors of yellow and green. I knew I could include brown for the outside as well, but that wasn't enough variation for me. When I researched it, I found that when pineapples are in their juvenile state, they are a reddish-orange color.

This was the kind of variation I was looking for in color at least, but through the research, I also found new shapes that I could use as well! I pulled this shape from the scales on pineapples.

Through the research I also thought about what a pineapple would look like when cut into pieces. The buttons were inspired by slices of the fruit, and the collar is like the pattern on those slices.

This was a helpful project in that it made me think outside the box and keep exploring to find inspiration in new ways. I enjoy thinking out of the box and I got to play around with my drawing skills for it as well.
